About Us
About the 'Sup Coalition
‘SUP (Substance Use Prevention) Medway is a community coalition. Our mission is to work collaboratively as a community to prevent young Medway residents from using substances and reduce use for those who already are. In other words, we strive to create conditions where Medway youth do not engage in vaping and underage drinking.
Healthy Community, Healthy Youth!
The ‘SUP Medway coalition has many initiatives active at any given time thanks to dozens of passionate volunteers we call “coalition members” and their participation in our Coalition Meetings as well as Work Groups. To join in, visit the Take Action page.
About Prevention
Prevention is ensuring harms (like injury and addiction) do NOT happen. Prevention efforts are most effective by giving people positive, actionable steps toward the desired outcome (thriving, drug-free kids!) rather than pushing people away with fear-based messages. Prevention science has uncovered that while scare tactics may get attention, they rarely change behavior long term, especially among teens.
Things that keep our kids healthy and drug free are called Protective Factors and things that often lead to substance use are called Risk Factors. ‘SUP Medway prioritizes its efforts on these underlying Risk and Protective factors to steer youth toward healthy decisions and buffer them from harmful exposure.
To learn more about our strategy and initiatives, we invite you to attend an upcoming meeting. To receive meeting details, please fill out this Get to Know You form.
